When a kid begins toddler stages all parents want to create special memories that they themselves and the children will remember forever. So planning a toddler party is a great idea for a kid's birthday.

Here are a few ideas to get the party started which will make a toddlers birthday very special. With lot's of activities and educational games to wear the children out, so the parents can have a quiet night after the hectic noisy day.

For a mixed gender party you can make a dress up box full off fancy dress clothes, maybe pirates outfits, policeman, fireman Sam or even postman Pat for the boys and for girls, princess Dora dress and wands, fairy wings, dress and tiaras, Cinderella dress or little red riding hood dress and cape.

For games to play always think of what the kids like to play.

Musical statues is a good game, this also teaches children to dance along to music and the children wont get worn out to quickly with this game either.

Hunt the sweets this game is much like an Easter egg hunt but with sweets, try not to leave any child out, so perhaps any child that finds a sweet sits out then, so all the toddlers get one sweet each and then there will be no crying because some did not get any.

What's the time Mr Wolf? is a great child's party game because the children get so worked up with excitement and laughter of being caught moving by Mr Wolf.

Tips for a great birthday party

Try not to set a time too late for the party to start or end as some toddlers like to have a nap in the afternoon and may get cranky. So two hours at the most is sufficient.

Ensure all kids' parents stay to look after their child, to take them to the toilet because all those children cannot be looked after by one or two parents.

Make homemade invitations with your child so they can put their stamp on them and feel involved, even if it is just to put a painted hand print on them all. This will make your toddler feel on top of the world.

You can hire a room or a play centre for a child's birthday party, but they can become very expensive and do not have the special touches that you as a parent can add to you're child's party because parents always know their child better than anybody.

If you have the party at you're home it will be less expensive, but you have to do the cleaning up afterwards, which is never a nice sight after a child's party. With cake and strawberry jelly up the walls and biscuits crushed into the carpets. But at the end of the party at least you will be able to see in their beaming faces, how much they have enjoyed themselves.

Finger foods are brilliant for children of toddler age such as:

Sandwiches

Sliced apples

Cucumber and carrot sticks

Jellies - (strawberry/orange/blackcurrant)

Biscuits - chocolate fingers, kit Kats etc...

Sausage rolls

And after all the food light the birthday cake and sing happy birthday.

At the end of the party and all the toddlers are worn out and ready to sleep, let them know five minutes in advance that it is home time soon. Then when it's time to go they will all be prepared because of the five minute warning and hopefully no tears, which is always a bonus.
